Relevant Experience (14+ Years):
International Treaty Implementation: As Control Environmental Officer for DFFE (Oceans & Coasts), Ms Kotsedi coordinated policy formulation and implementation to advance South Africa’s interest in the Antarctic Treaty System and its environmental protocols, including sub-Antarctic islands. This experience is critical for understanding the UN/GEF compliance requirements of the GEM programme.
Protected Areas Management: She contributed to the effective management of approximately 44 Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and oversaw the implementation of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act.
Estuaries Management: She was responsible for the development and implementation of the National Estuarine Management Protocol (NEMP); Facilitating the development and implementation of estuary management plans (EMPs) and situation assessment reports (SARs) and ensuring that these documents are aligned with NEMP and related policies and guidelines;
EIA & Licensing: Extensive private sector experience at Coastal & Environmental Services (EOH CES), where she was responsible for project management; preparation of application forms and technical documentation on behalf of applicants relating to environmental authorisations; water use license applications; waste license applications and mining applications; preparation of public participation documents; report writing (Basic Assessment Reports and Scoping Reports, Environmental Management Programmes (EMPr), specialist reports and audit reports); conducting site visits; environmental monitoring; providing environmental safety training.
